Informed along the way by passionate local guides who know the isle’s every natural secret, this outing offers superb photo opportunities as the track winds through Norfolk Island National Park from Red Road to Captain Cook’s Lookout, traversing primeval subtropical rainforest and hugging high coastal cliffs to reach the northwest point of the island.
Some 25 rare and endemic bird species can be spotted in Norfolk’s forests, while over the summer breeding season, the island also hosts flocks of several migratory seabird species. The designated route also invites encounters with countless plant species, including some found nowhere else in the world.
The local bus transfer from the jetty to the trailhead and back takes about 25 minutes each way; the rest of this 3-hour adventure is spent in the rugged embrace of primal nature.

Please note: This active adventure involves some 1.8km / 1.2 mi of hiking around Norfolk’s northern coastline over very uneven terrain with loose surface textures and steep inclines. A good level of fitness and full use of limbs is required. The tour is not suitable for those who utilise a wheelchair or have mobility limitations. Wear comfortable clothing suited to the weather and sturdy closed-toe walking/trail shoes. Bring a hat, your preferred sun and rain protection, and a refillable water bottle. The order of activities may vary.
