Excursion Basilica, cascade and copper art experience tour at Quebec City
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Head northeastward along the densely forested St. Lawrence River shoreline by coach to explore three unique landmarks of interest, each deeply connected to the Canadian experience.
Ste-Anne-de-Beaupré Basilica
Your adventure begins with a scenic 45-minute drive to Ste-Anne-de-Beaupré Basilica, a world-renowned shrine that has drawn pilgrims to this spot for centuries. Celebrated for its breathtaking architecture, serene atmosphere, and long history of miraculous cures for the sick and disabled, a visit here is always something of a heavenly experience.
Albert Gilles Copper Museum
The Albert Gilles Copper Museum, on the other hand, celebrates a more earthly enterprise: the creation of copper repoussé masterpieces at the hand of the late artisan Albert Gilles, whose works adorn the main doors of St. Anne-de-Beaupré as well as the collections of Walt Disney, Mandelson Chrysler, and Pope Pius XII. After touring the museum’s exhibits, challenge your own metal-crafting skills during a guided hands-on session as you attempt to create your personal copper masterpiece. No matter the outcome, your efforts will be rewarded with some delicious tea and a classic French canelé rum pastry.
Montmorency Falls
As you make your way back toward the Port of Québec, your journey brings you to an awe-inspiring example of Mother Nature’s creation: Montmorency Falls. Located in a park just outside Old Québec, the waters of this monumental cataract – taller than Niagara’s famous falls – make a spectacularly photogenic sight as they plunge down the cliffs and into the St. Lawrence River amidst its 300-mile journey from the North Atlantic to the Great Lakes. From this spot, the port is just 20 minutes away
