Aburatsu, Miyazaki, Ayano Teruha Suspension Bridge, Teruha Forest, National Park, and Museum
Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 1.5-hour drive to the Ayano Teruha Suspension Bridge. With a length of approximately 820 feet (about 250 meters) and a height of approximately 466 feet (about 142 meters), Ayano Teruha is one of the largest pedestrian suspension bridges in the world. In 2010, the bridge was renovated to include a grid over part of the floor, and now you can experience the thrill of gazing directly down to the spectacular Teruha Forest area of the Kyushu Chuo Sanchi Quasi National Park below. Nearby is the Shoyo Jyurin Culture Museum, where facts about the glorious evergreen forest of Aya are displayed. A short walk takes you to the other side of the bridge, with spectacular panoramic views en route.
Japanese Lunch and Interactive Taiko Drum Experience
Next, re-board your coach and proceed for a Japanese lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, continue on for an interactive Taiko drum experience. The 'taiko' is a traditional type of drum that is native to Japan. The oldest physical evidence of a taiko is a haniwa clay figure of a drummer that dates from the 6th or 7th century, but it is possible that the tradition is older still. Recently, taiko groups have a seen phenomenal growth in popularity.
