Excursion Sights & smells of belem tour at Belem

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Leave the píer and join your local chef on a culinary adventure starting at the Ver-o-Peso Market, Belém's postcard attraction and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Stroll into the original market hall, through its blue Gothic arches, imported and prefabricated from England in 1899. Once you get inside you'll be immersed into the Amazon Fish World, with outrageously strange fish like the 40 lb catfish-like pirapema, all laid out on ice. Outside, under the canopies you'll be introduced to hundreds of species of Amazon fruits, vegetables and spices. The Chef, in this two-hour visit will show how each ingredient is used, such as manioc root, leaves, vegetables, pepper and tropical fruits.

After the visit in the Market embark on a local wooden boat for a 30 minute ride towards the Combu Island on the Guama River for lunch at the Saldosa Maloca restaurant. Before lunch, the Chef will take you through an Organic Garden where herbs and roots grow fresh and then used in your local meal. After lunch, embark on the boat and cross the river back to Belem.
