Excursion Sandy island beach snorkeling tour at Carriacou
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Swim and snorkel in the pristine waters around Sandy Island, an unassuming cay off the west coast of Carriacou, Grenada. Enjoy time to bask in the sun on this beach within view of your ship.
Embark from the Tyrell Bay jetty for the short boat ride to Sandy Island. Enjoy the Gilligan-like backdrop for picnicking and snorkeling on this uninhabited white-sand isle that is little more than a spit of sand. Snorkel among some of the 200 species of tropical fish that inhabit Grenandian waters, thanks to concerned islanders and conservationists who have made the reef and surrounding ecosystem a protected area.
Experience the nurseries where fish thrive, providing snorkelers with a wide assortment of colorful sea life. The brown chromis is most common, but you're likely to glimpse many blueheads, bicolor damselfish, four-eye butterfly fish and French grunts. You may even see trumpet fish, snapper, stoplight parrot fish and puffer fish.
Make the short return boat trip to the ship.
