Excursion Sake tasting experience tour at Niigata
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Enjoy a tasting of a number of Japanese sake wines on this excursion. Also called rice wine, Sake is made by fermenting polished rice in a process that is closer to beer than wine. Starch in the rice is converted into sugar, and the brew is then fermented.
Departing from the pier drive 15 minutes to a local sake brewery to learn about and taste one of the highest quality sakes in Japan. Due to the heavy snow that melts and streams down into the rice farms, Niigata is well known as the producers of the finest rice and thus the finest sake.
The brewery you are to visit is one of the oldest sake breweries in this region. Learn about the sake-making process and taste several varieties of sake, with the option to purchase sake to take home.
Then drive 15 minutes towards the pier and enjoy getting a bird's eye view of the city of Niigata and its scenic mountains at the Befco Bakauke Observatory. This observatory is one of the highest points in the region; enjoy the magnificent panoramic view provided by this point which is 125 meters high.
Make the 15-minute drive back to the pier.
