Excursion Highlights of carriacou tour at Carriacou
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Discover Carriacou on this half-day road trip designed to highlight the island's historic points and beauty. Bring your camera for the photo opportunities along the way.
Disembark from the pier for a twenty-minute drive to Belair, passing through the capital, Hillsborough, and the town of Beausejour. Stop at the scenic overlook located at the Princess Royal Hospital and take in the view of Hillsborough with Sandy Island in the background and Sea Cloud 11 at anchor. See the dependencies of Grenada (Petite Martinique) and St. Vincent (Union Island, Bequia, Palm Beach Island, Mayreau, Canouan and Petit St. Vincent) stretched across the turquoise waters. While here, look for Tobago Cays, too.
Next, continue the drive through Belvedere and Dover and on into Windward. This is the home of the traditional wooden boat building industry. Listen as the shipwrights explain how the boats are built while construction is in process.
Leave Windward for the drive to Bogles and on to the Botanical Gardens where there are lovely tropical plant and flower specimens. Head back to Hillsborough for a visit to the Museum. Explore the extensive collection of Amerindian, African and Colonial artifacts. Stop by the gift shop to browse the selection of historical prints, local arts and crafts, tee shirts, books on island culture, and music CDs of the island's many festivals.
Return to the ship.
