Excursion Darby's cave hike tour at Barbuda
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Take a 20 minute drive through Barbuda to the starting poing of your hike to Darby Cave. Along the way your knowledgeable and local guides will point out interesting trees, plants and fauna. After a 45 walk through the lush vegetation this huge, deep hole suddenly appears in front of you and the tops of tall palm trees fell like they are at eye level!
Darby Sink Hole is over three hundred feet in diameter and around seventy feet deep. One side of the hole has been greatly undercut and stalactites up to eight feet long have formed under the overhang. The vegetation resembles a mini rainforest with palms, ferns, and lianas and there are numerous bird species, some indigenous to Antigua & Barbuda. Your guide will take you down in the sinkhole and to explore a rainforest type ecosystem with many iguanas, hermit crabs, land turtles, and deer. Inside Indian Cave, there are petroglyph drawings that can still be seen on the cave walls, that were left by Arawak Indians.
Hike 45 minutes back to the start and enjoy your relaxing 20 minute drive back to the ship.
