Transfer from the port to Carey Street, in the heart of Monrovia, where you will be welcomed by local hosts for a cultural orientation. Dive into hands-on preparation of traditional Liberian snacks, including fried plantains, cassava chips, and roasted peanuts, and participate in authentic kitchen activities such as pounding fufu, stirring palm butter, and grinding spices. Enjoy a refreshing juice break before visiting a batik and basket weaving atelier to observe talented artisans at work, and engage in a creative activity led by local craft experts, such as tie-dye stamping or basic carving. You’ll also have the opportunity to browse and interact with local craft vendors, supporting the community and discovering unique handmade items. After some free time, we will return to the port. This immersive experience offers a genuine taste of Liberian culture.
Note
Please note: Republic of Liberia is a very-low-income country with very basic infrastructure, and vastly different to the western culture mentality. Local conditions may be challenging; therefore, we urge flexibility and understanding as we visit unique and somewhat remote destinations. Coaches, guides, equipment, and services are the best-available in the area, but may not be up to the standards of those found on other excursions. A moderate amount of walking, at times over uneven, bumpy surfaces, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach. Please be aware of cultural differences and refrain from taking photos of people without their permission. Do not take photos of government entities. Please ask your guide for guidance. Lightweight, comfortable clothing with flat, closed toes walking shoes, sun protection and insect repellant are recommended. Anticipate high temperatures and humidity and we recommend staying hydrated by bringing your water bottle. Guests are informed that tips to local guides and drivers are at the guest’s discretion.
