Excursion Cayman brac island tour tour at George Town

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Cayman Brac lies the furthest east island of the Cayman Islands, a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean Sea. History tells that Christopher Columbus caught sight of Cayman Brac and its sister island, Little Cayman, in 1503 when his ship was blown off course during a trip to Panama. He named the islands "Las Tortugas" because of the many turtles he spotted on the islands.

In 1586 Sir Francis Drake renamed the island using the word "Caymanas", derived from the Caribbean name for crocodiles, though he may have just seen the Rock Iguanas that inhabit the island today.

There is time to explore all the facets and charms of this island, including a stop at the Cayman Brac Museum. The Bluff, a limestone cliff that runs the length of the island, contains many caves, including Bat Cave. To the east, a lighthouse offers sea views. Visit Skull Cave, Peter's Cave, the Bat Cave and Rebecca's Cave; many of these caves were used as havens for pirates in the heyday of piracy, as the island has many sources of fresh water and food in the local flora and fauna.

After your tour, enjoy a bbq lunch at the Cayman Brac Beach Resort. Enjoy the rest of the time at leisure, lying on the beach relaxing by the pool.

Return to the ship feeling refreshed.
