Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Barrow, Alaska, on the edge of the Arctic Ocean, "Land of the Midnight Sun", is the northernmost city in the United States and only accessible by plane. The village is a community of vast cultural and socioeconomic diversity.

The tour will take you through the community's scenic and cultural sites.

Drive out towards Point Barrow, as far as the road is able to take you. Here you will have the chance to dip your toes into the Arctic Ocean. Be on the lookout for arctic fowl and small animals. Other animals that populate the area are snowy owls, arctic foxes, caribou, polar bears, seals, walruses, and whales. Sights are not guaranteed. Take a short walk through the tundra to view ancient Inupiat sod hut remains, and drive to the iconic Whale Bone Arch for a photo stop.

Visit the Inupiat Heritage Center's, where you can meet Inupiat artists and see their intricate work on baleen and carved ivory crafts. Also highlighted is the whaling history exhibition. Take a look into whaling traditions, tools, equipment and Umiapiaq (traditional whaling skin boat).

Enjoy a cultural presentation and experience Inupiat songs and dances from various communities on the North Slope that tell stories of the past. You'll meet locals who use traditional drums and sing songs that have been passed on for many generations.

You will also have a chance to see a demonstration of our Inupiat native games like the one-foot-high kick, seal hop or stick pull.
