Chumbarovka Street

This tour takes you through the major highlights to hear the story of the first Russian port established 4 centuries ago. Board the coach for a drive along the Embankment of the Northern Dvina passing the Orthodox Cathedral and Northern (Arctic) Federal University. During a short walk along the old pedestrian street of Arkhangelsk you have the chance to view the architecture of Chumbarovka Street and observe different wooden houses, copies of local merchants` private mansions brought here from different parts of the city.


Continue your way along the Embankment to see St. Nicholas Church, Monument to the Intervention Victims and Red Quay, the starting point of many polar research expeditions in the 18th-20th centuries.


Peter the Great Monument and Merchant Yard Museum

Walk to the monument of Peter the Great, which commemorates the Tsar's efforts to establish the first Russian shipyard in Arkhangelsk. It stands at Pur Navolok Cape, the place where the city was founded. Nearby is the Merchant Yard 'Gostiny Dvor' - a unique example of Russian architecture from the second half of the 17th century. Enter the museum exhibition devoted to the history of the city of Arkhangelsk.


City Tour

Continue your city tour with a drive along the Embankment passing former foreign settlement, represented today by the Lutheran Church. Enjoy views of the river Northern Dvina and a visit to Dormition Church (or Trinity Church). A short stop at the factory shop which has a variety of local souvenirs made of wool, fabric, wood, birch bark and even bone carvings.


British Cemetery and Memorial

Drive through the city administrative center viewing modern multi-storied buildings, Lenin Square and Voskresenskaya Street - the main thoroughfare of the city. Stop at the British cemetery and memorial which commemorates 219 British officers and men lost their lives in the north Russian campaign.


Following this visit your bus drives back to the pier.

Proper attire is required for visits inside the churches; it is recommended that ladies wear pants and head scarf, while men may not wear shorts. Dress in layers with comfortable walking shoes.
