Excursion Algiers art trail tour at Algiers
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
You board your coach for a short drive to visit the Museum of Fine Arts of Algiers. This little sanctuary houses a treasure of more than 8000 paintings and sculptures and is considered to be the most interesting of its kind in Africa and the Middle East. Several "chefs-d'oeuvre" of Renoir, Delacroix, Picasso, and Rodin among a long list of other famous artists are found here.
Next you visit the Museums of Antiquities and of Islamic Arts which are side by side and are the oldest museums in Algiers, having opened in 1897. The building of the Museum of Antiquities is itself as much a reason to visit as the artefacts, which are from the major sites in Algeria. There are some particularly fine statues and wonderful mosaics. The Museum of Islamic Arts displays carpets, pottery, and household objects from around the Muslim world.
You will end this artistic journey with a drive through the heart of "European" Algiers to visit the new MAMA Art Gallery which is housed in a beautiful building and has rotating exhibitions of contemporary local artists.

Note
Please note: Tour is led by a Police Escort. Taking photos of military & police buildings is forbidden. Infrastructure in Algiers may be basic, and local conditions may be challenging: coaches, guides, hotels, restaurants, equipment, and services are the best-available in the area, but may not be up to the standards of those found on other ports therefore, we urge flexibility and understanding as we visit unique less touristic destinations. The cost of providing a tour programme in this area is proportionately more expensive than in neighbouring regions as vehicles and guides are brought in from the whole region. This may be reflected in the prices of the tours and we thank you for your understanding.
