Excursion A day in ambodifotatra tour at Ambodifotatra

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Take a walking tour of Ile Ste Marie, or Nosy Boraha, a narrow granitic island 57 km long 8 km off the east coast of Madagascar. Its lush vegetation interspersed with many small villages, the sandy beaches shaded by coconut palms, its bays and coves protected by coral reefs have turned this island into a noteworthy tourism destination in Madagascar.

Most hotels are along the coast south of Ambodifotatra, where the beach is narrow but pleasant. The northwestern part of the island is quieter, but more difficult to access. The east coast is relatively rugged and - until recently - undeveloped.

Upon arriving, meet your guide and visit the island's lovely Catholic Church, looping back on a botanical trail and walking through the charming town. Visit the colorful market and walk to see an entire skeleton of a sperm whale beached long ago. Walk to town hall and see local handcrafts, bringing home a souvenir of this beautiful place.

Please note: This tour involves approximately three hours of slow walking over mostly flat surfaces, making this tour less suitable for those with walking difficulties. Guests desiring to turn back will be able to do so, assisted by a provided guide. Guests are recommended to wear light clothing (including shorts) and sandals or shoes that can be easily removed, as well rain gear if raining. Guests are also asked to bring insect repellant, hat, sunscreen, walking stick, water and sunglasses.
