Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
The Gannet Islands Ecological Reserve, located 40 km northeast of Cartwright, is the largest and most diverse seabird colony in Labrador. While no Northern Gannets are found there, the reserve protects North America’s largest Razorbill colony with over 15,000 pairs, and the third-largest Atlantic Puffin colony with more than 38,000 pairs. It also hosts 36,000 pairs of Common Murres, 1,900 Thick-billed Murres, along with Black-legged Kittiwakes, Great Black-backed Gulls, and Northern Fulmars. In summer, it serves as a staging area for migrating Harlequin Ducks. Established as a wildlife reserve in 1964 and designated as an Ecological Reserve in 1983, the 22 km² protected area includes 20 km² of marine environment.
