Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 45-minute drive along the coast and countryside of Maldonado en route to Piriápolis, located on the north-east slope of Cerro del Toro, for a visit to the Cerro del Toro Winery. Owned by the Japanese Kambara family, this Uruguayan wine project was founded in 2016 with a mission of producing high-quality wines in a privileged location on the beautiful coast of Maldonado.

Vineyard Varieties, Guided Winery Tour, Select Meats & Firewood, Ignite & Maintain Fire

Two-thirds of the approximately 1,977-acre (about 800-hectare) vineyard are occupied by red varieties, and the rest by white. Half of the vineyard is composed of tannat, merlot, and albariño. The latter is the white variety (chardonnay, viognier, and pinot grigio) emblem of the winery. The rest of the inks are pinot noir, cabernet franc, syrah, petit verdot, gamaret, and lacrima christi. Upon arrival at Cerro del Toro, you are welcomed and escorted on a guided walking tour of the vineyard. Afterward, learn how to select the best cuts of meat, choose the firewood, and ignite and maintain the fire to achieve the desired cooking point.

Parrillada Cooking Demonstration, Three-Course Barbecue Lunch, Winery Store

Next, observe a traditional Uruguayan parrillada (barbecue) cooking demonstration whilst enjoying a glass of wine. Finally, savour the delicious specialities your chef has prepared during a sumptuous, three-course barbecue lunch paired with their wines. Before you leave, you can browse the winery store. At the conclusion of your tour, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 45-minute drive back to the pier along the picturesque coastal road.

Please note: This tour involves a minimal amount of walking, at times over uneven surfaces, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach and stairs at the winery. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Lightweight, comfortable clothing, flat, closed-toe walking shoes and sun protection are recommended. Guests must be at least 21 years old to be served alcoholic beverages. Space on this tour is very limited; we suggest you book in advance to avoid disappointment.
