Excursion (wheelchair accessible) introduction of buddhism tour at Laem Chabang
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Visit Pattaya’s main cultural sites by ADA (wheelchair-accessible) vehicle, traveling comfortably from the pier to the serene complex of Wat Yannasangwararam, the dramatic Khao Chi Chan (Buddha Mountain), and a scenic drive along Jomtien Beach Road.
Wat Yannasangwararam
Your experience begins at the pier, where you board an ADA-equipped van featuring a lift, wheelchair restraints, and air-conditioning, with water provided on board. Settled comfortably, you set out on a 45-minute drive toward Wat Yannasangwararam, a serene temple complex that offers an accessible, thoughtful introduction to Thai Buddhism. As the van leaves the harbor area and the scenery opens to coastal views and local neighborhoods, your guide begins framing the symbolism you will encounter: the rhythm of temple life, the meaning behind the architecture, and the gentle etiquette observed at holy places. On arrival, the visit unfolds at a relaxed pace through the main, accessible areas of the grounds. Paths here are a mix of flat and uneven surfaces, but your route is selected to minimize challenges as you explore tranquil gardens, reflective water features, and modern temple structures. Over approximately 75 minutes on site, you absorb the calm ambiance and the visual language of the complex, pausing where needed and moving as a small group to keep the experience personal and unrushed. Restrooms are available and free of charge.
Khao Chi Chan
Leaving the temple, you continue with a short drive to the dramatic limestone face of Khao Chi Chan (Buddha Mountain). This famous landmark features a giant sculptural image of Lord Buddha erected on a giant cliff. It was built 1995 as an initiative by the Supreme Patriarch, who felt it was a shame to let these marble mountains be destroyed. Consequently, he ordered the giant Buddha image be created on the cliff that was already cut in half. It was also built to honour H.M. the King Rama IX, on the occasion of his Golden Jubilee. The approach reveals the famous cliffside Buddha outline, a striking landmark set against the open sky. The main viewing area is flat and generally suitable for wheelchair users, allowing everyone to appreciate the scale and artistry of the image without negotiating difficult terrain. During roughly 30 minutes here, your guide shares the story behind the site’s creation and its cultural significance, while you take in the peaceful surroundings and the wide, uncluttered vantage point. Restrooms are available, free of charge.
Jomtien Beach Road
From Khao Chi Chan, the tour shifts gears into a coastal interlude: a 30-minute scenic drive along Jomtien Beach Road. Remaining in the comfort of the van, you enjoy a ribbon of seaside views—palms, promenades, and the gently curving shoreline—offering an easy-going window into local life along the water. This segment is intentionally unhurried, a chance to relax, watch the scenery glide by, and ask the guide questions about the area’s culture, traditions, and daily rhythms.
As the afternoon draws to a close, you begin the 45-minute return transfer to the pier, reflecting on a balanced itinerary designed for accessibility and comfort without sacrificing cultural depth.
Note
Please Note: total walking distance is approximately 600 metres (0.37 miles) with about 10 steps encountered on mixed surfaces, including flat paving and occasional uneven ground at Wat Yannasangwararam, while the main viewing area at Khao Chi Chan is level and generally suitable for wheelchair users. Full time wheelchair users are kindly requested to contact shoreconcierge@silversea.com in order to provide further details and determine if the tour is suitable for them. Both sites are holy places, so modest attire is required; shoulders and knees should be covered, and guests are encouraged to wear light, breathable clothing appropriate for Thailand’s climate. Photography and video are permitted at the visited areas without additional fees, and your guide will advise if any spot requests discreet behaviour or restricted shooting. The van is air-conditioned and provides drinking water; meals and headsets are not included. This tour operates with a licensed English-speaking guide on a one-van basis, accommodating up to four guests per van (three seated plus one wheelchair user).
