Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Ushuaia has grown by the sea but also under the watchful gaze of the prison. In 1896, twenty-three prisoners set out from Buenos Aires and sailing the South Atlantic, arrived in Ushuaia to build the most southerly jail in the world that anyone would have inhabited before. The End of the World Train keeps secrets and stories that will be revealed today.
Upon arrival at Tierra del Fuego National park, and at The End of the World Station the antique wagons of the Ferrocarril Austral Fueguino will be ready for boarding. The train is the first to operate inside an Argentine National Park and is pulled by a locomotive and follows in part the Pipo River and along the original terreplein, where the old prisoners’ train ran until 1947. En route back to Ushuaia, learn more about the history of this wonderful and unique city.
The local guides will offer to drop you off at the Old Prison Museum for a visit on your own (which is very centrally located) or you can be transferred back to the ship.
