Excursion Treasures of barranco district tour at Lima

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Discover Lima's Barranco District, renowned for its artistry and internationally recognized artists on this half-day excursion. The daily life in Barranco is more relaxed and quieter than in the rest of Lima. The city center invites you to stroll around, visit old colonial and republican houses and enjoy the numerous other amazing sights that Barranco has to offer.

Pedro de Osma Museum

Depart the pier in direction of Pedro de Osma Art Museum. The imposing former residence of Pedro de Osma, dating from the beginning of this century, is now a private museum, housing a collection of colonial art of Cusco and Ayacucho Schools.

The artistic finds come from the personal collection formed by Don Pedro de Osma Gildemeister between years 1936 - 1967. He was a connoisseur of the Peruvian virreinal art, who reunited gradually around familiar patrimony remarkable objects of the more varied sorts and techniques that are a good reflect of the Peruvian art of centuries XVI, XVII, XVIII and XIX. All the pieces were lodged in his large house of Barranco, arranged originally in tight exhibition, in the style of the European palace-museums of century XIX.

Victor Delfin Art Gallery

Proceed to Victor Delfin Art Gallery, an internationally recognized artist. Delfin's work is bold, dramatic, and often very large, and be found in the gardens and throughout the first floor. He is one of the leading sculptors and painters in Peru and is best known for his monumental "El Beso" sculpture unveiled in 1993 in the Love Park by the Pacific Ocean in the Miraflores District of Lima.

Delfín has a worldwide reputation; his art has been exhibited across South and North America and is housed in major museums and private collections. Delfín is highly regarded for his massive metalwork sculptures of birds, horses and other animals, as well as sensual, often sexually charged paintings. His art can also have a strong political theme, such as 1996 chronicle that denounced, with great irony, the corruption and authoritarianism during the regime of Alberto Fujimori.

Delfín's studio, in the artistic Barranco District of Lima, overlooks the ocean. His house, filled with his paintings and sculptures, is now a bed-and-breakfast run by his daughter.

Barranco District

Finally, enjoy some light refreshment and some free time walking around the main square and marvel at the beautiful colonial architecture of its main church. Take a short walk to the "Puente de los Suspiros" (Bridge of Sighs), where it is a custom to take a deep breath and make a wish as you cross the bridge.

At the conclusion of the tour, re-board the vehicle for the approximately 1-hour 15-minute return drive to the pier.
