The cuisine of the north of Chile is a combination of typical ingredients from the highlands, the valleys, and the coast. One of the most traditional dishes of northern Chile is "Picante de Mariscos", composed of a variety of local products, such as seafood, potato, olive oil, garlics, onions, yellow pepper, and milk.
Mercadillo Colon
Begin your experience with a scenic drive accompanied by Javiera Peters, an Ariqueña chef who will share her story emphasizing what is "the best of Arica", their people, and the cuisine. Visit the "mercadillo Colón" to choose the ingredients for your local dish.
Yachting Club, Picante de Mariscos workshop and tasting
Continue driving to the Yachting Club, located at the entrance of "Isla El Alacrán" with incredible views of the beautiful El Morro. Entering the kitchen of the Yachting Club, you will be greeted with a traditional Mango Sour (drink prepared with pisco, lemon, and mango fruit) and an apron to cook.
Prepare a traditional Picante de Mariscos and enjoy a taste of it, while interacting with the chef.
The Chef - Javiera Peters
The chef was born and raised in Arica. Since her childhood, Javiera Peters showed interest in local history, taking the decision to study archeology. However, she realized she had a strong interest in food and decided to change her career to study the techniques behind cooking, dedicating full time to master traditional and modern cooking styles seasoned with cultural secrets. She is now teaching new generations of chefs the importance of using local, fresh ingredients, and the history behind every product. She currently wants to maintain the local food culture and traditions alive in a city with such a complex and diverse heritage as Arica.
The tour concludes back at the ship.
