Siglufjörður, Bakkaflöt, Skagafjordur Fjord

Depart Siglufjörður for the scenic, approximately 1.75-hour drive headed to Bakkaflöt, located on the beautiful Skagafjordur Fjord. Upon arrival, proceed to the onsite boathouse, where your river-rafting adventure begins and ends. After meeting your guides, receive your rafting, safety, and tour instructions, and be outfitted with your rafting and safety gear. Included are helmets, life jackets, water boots, wetsuits, and dry tops.

West Glacial River & Canyon, River-Rafting, Breath-Taking Scenery

Next, board a bus for the short drive to the West Glacial River. Upon arrival at the starting point and after a full safety briefing, you are divided into crews and assigned a raft and guide. Embark your assigned raft and begin your incredibly scenic and fun-filled river-rafting tour through the magnificent West Glacial Canyon. The Class 2-3 waters of the West Glacial River are ideal for guests who want to enjoy river-rafting that isn’t overly strenuous, or in treacherous waters, whilst enjoying some of Iceland’s breath-taking scenery.

High Canyon Walls, Amazing Geology, Hot Springs, Hot Cocoa, Cliff-Jumping

Once on the West Glacial River, enter the canyon with its high walls and amazing geology, and marvel at your exquisite natural surrounds. Along the way, a stop is made at one of the many geothermal hot springs to enjoy the steam, warm-up your fingers and toes, and relax as your rafting guide prepares some outbound-style hot cocoa right by the river. More adventurous guests may also opt to do some exhilarating cliff-jumping. Following your stop, continue rafting until reaching the take-out point, then board your awaiting bus for the short drive back to the base in Bakkaflöt.

Hot Tub Soak, Traditional Icelandic Meal

Upon arrival, shower-up and head to the hot tub for a relaxing soak in the soothing and invigorating geothermal waters. Afterward, proceed for a hearty and delicious meal consisting of traditional Icelandic meat soup and home-made bread. At the conclusion of your tour, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 1.5-hour drive back to the pier.

Please note: This tour involves an extensive amount of activity and a moderate amount of walking for approximately 0.5 miles (about 0.8 kilometres), at times over uneven, rocky, gravel, slippery, and natural surfaces and inclines, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach and bus, and embark/disembark the river-rafts. The ride may be rough at times, and guests will experience bumpy, jerking motions. This tour is recommended for active guests who are in good physical condition and can swim in water too deep to stand. This tour is not suitable for pregnant guests, guests with neck and/or back problems, guests with heart and/or respiratory conditions, guests prone to motion sickness, guests with balance issues, guests with limited mobility, and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Guests are advised to wear a swimsuit under warm, comfortable, non-cotton clothing in layers with flat, closed-toe walking shoes you won’t mind getting wet, and bring sun protection, insect repellent, a warm, weatherproof sweater and jacket, change of clothing, hat, a towel, bottled water, and Icelandic Kronas or credit cards for purchases from the ship; an extra layer of clothing and warm socks are recommended. Guests must be at least 4’11” (about 1.5 metres) in height to participate on this tour. Guests weighing more than 330 pounds (about 150 kilograms) cannot participate on this tour. This rafting tour operates in 10-passenger rafts. Rafts, paddles, helmets, life jackets, water boots, wetsuits, and dry tops are provided; there is no shade on the rafts. Guests must be at least 20 years old to be served alcoholic beverages. Guests who have consumed alcoholic beverages cannot participate on this tour. Although frequently encountered on this type of tour, wildlife and marine life sightings are not guaranteed. A safety vest must be worn at all times whilst rafting. Photography/videography is prohibited whilst rafting. A signed waiver is required to participate on this tour. The rafting portion of the tour is approximately 1.5 hours in duration; guests must paddle at all times. The duration of rafting is approximate, as it is water-level-dependent. The raft operator may deny participation if a guest appears unfit or unable to sustain such strenuous activity. The driving time between the pier and river-rafting venue is approximately 1.5-1.75 hours in each direction. The tour sequence and timings may vary.
