Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 30-minute drive to Sistiana. Upon arrival, take a guided stroll along the Rilke Trail, a picturesque coastal path on the Trieste Riviera between Sistiana and Duino offering wonderful views of the Falesie di Duino Nature Reserve. According to tradition, it was along this path, which is unique on the entire Mediterranean coast, that poet Rainer Maria Rilke found inspiration for his Duino Elegies. Rilke stayed in Duino Castle from 1911-1912 as a guest of the Princess della Torre e Tasso. After being rendered unusable for several years, the Rilke Promenade has been restored by the Province of Trieste and Municipality of Duino Aurisina and returned to the citizenry.

Next, proceed for a guided tour of the Duino Castle, undoubtedly one of the most beautiful castles in Europe. The gardens of this cliff-top location overlook a small fishing village lined by romantic avenues adorned with period statues, objects, panoramic terraces, and vast horizons of the sea; a stunning view to behold. Inside the castle, a solid composite construction dominated by a 16th-century tower and structure dating back 2,000 years, marvel at furnishings, pictures, valuables, books, and mementoes that have been collected over the centuries and bestow a warm, elegant atmosphere in the castle. Following your tour, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 45-minute drive back to the pier.

Please note: This tour involves an extensive amount of walking and standing for approximately 1.5 miles-1.8 miles (about 2.5 kilometres-three kilometres), at times over uneven and cobblestone surfaces, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach, 60 steps at the Duino Castle's Palladio Staircase and Tower, and 100 steps at the Bunker (optional). This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Guests are advised to wear lightweight, comfortable clothing with flat-soled, closed-toe comfortable walking shoes, and bring sun protection, a hat, a sweater or light jacket, bottled water, and Euros or credit cards for purchases from the ship. Guests must be at least 18 years old to be served alcoholic beverages. In the event of heavy rain, the path will not accessible and the visit to the Rilke Trail will be replaced with a panoramic sightseeing tour of Trieste by coach. The tour sequence may vary.
