Excursion Kalmar on-foot tour at Kalmar

Explore one of the oldest cities in Sweden on-foot during this picturesque, half-day walking tour of historic Kalmar.

Guest Harbour, City Park and Kalmar Castle

Depart the pier for a scenic, guided stroll along Guest Harbour and the beautiful, green City Park, a romantic English-style garden with many unusual plants and sculptures. From here, take in stunning views of Kalmar Castle, an imposing palace with grand watchtowers perched on a tiny island just off the coast.

Kalmar Cathedral and Tripp, Trapp and Trull

Leaving City Park, stroll along the ancient City Walls and through small, charming alleys. Pass the 'Europa Nostra' water tower and one of the most famous sights in Kalmar, the 17th-century houses known as 'Tripp, Trapp and Trull'. Upon arrival at 'Stortorget', or 'Big Square', see the impressive, 17th-century Kalmar Cathedral, the biggest baroque church in Sweden. On the opposite side of the square is City Hall, built in the Dutch-Renaissance style.

Old Town Café and Refreshments

A final stop is made at one of the Old Town's charming cafes for a traditional Swedish pastry and cookies served with tea and coffee. Afterward, commence your guided stroll back to the pier.

Please note: This tour involves an extensive amount of walking for approximately 3.7-4.3 miles (about six-seven kilometres), with cobblestone surfaces around the Cathedral and in the city centre, and 27 steps at the local cafe. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Guests are advised to wear lightweight, comfortable clothing with flat, closed-toe walking shoes, and bring sun protection and a light jacket or sweater from the ship. An inside visit to the Cathedral may not be possible during church services. The tour sequence may vary.
