Indulge your senses with the ancient wonders of Izmir during this splendid, half-day sightseeing excursion.

Izmir and Roman Agora

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 75-minute drive to Izmir City. Upon arrival, your first stop is at the Roman Agora. Although this ancient marketplace was built during the rule of Alexander the Great, its remains date back to 178 A.D., when Marcus Aurelius commissioned its reconstruction after a devastating earthquake.

Archaeological and Ethnography Museums

Next, continue to the Izmir Archaeological Museum. Your guided tour features an extensive collection of antiquities from throughout the Aegean region; of particular note are the statues of Poseidon and Demeter. From here, proceed on-foot to the nearby Ethnography Museum, which delves into Turkish culture and folklore, and features an outstanding assortment of Bergama and Gördes carpets on display.

Asansör

Following your visit, head to the former Levanten and Jewish quarters, Asansör. In addition to the area's well-preserved homes, see an elevator built in the 19th century. A refreshment stop is made to admire the stunning panorama of the city before re-boarding your coach and commencing the approximately one-hour drive back to the pier.

Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking for approximately 765 yards (about 700 metres), at times over uneven and cobblestone surfaces, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach. This tour is suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Lightweight, comfortable clothing with flat, closed-toe walking shoes and sun protection are recommended. The Izmir Archaeological Museum and Ethnography Museums may be closed on Mondays.
