Discover the Vibrant Charm of Mount Maunganui

Begin with a scenic journey through the lively township of Mount Maunganui, taking in views of bustling shops, cozy cafés, and surf beaches. The route then extends into the open countryside, leading to the renowned Hells Gate — a geothermal wonder so dramatically otherworldly that even the famous playwright George Bernard Shaw named it after its fiery landscape.

Exploring the Geothermal Park

Upon arrival, guests will embark on a self-guided walk through this incredible geothermal park. Along the way, bubbling mud pools and steaming vents create an environment reminiscent of another planet. The landscape features dramatic names like Sodom & Gomorrah and the Devil’s Bath, perfectly reflecting their fiery reputation and captivating natural beauty.

A Cultural and Healing Experience

The Maori have long believed this geothermal area is a living entity, with its constant movement, heat, and energy captivating visitors for centuries. The legendary mineral waters and geothermal muds of Rotorua are renowned for their healing and revitalizing properties — and Hells Gate is the most iconic site of all. For over 700 years, Tikitere, as it is known to the Maori, has been a sanctuary for wellness and muscle soothing.

Relax and Rejuvenate

Now, it’s time for guests to experience this natural wonder firsthand. Take a dip into the warm, therapeutic mud bath for approximately 20 minutes, covering the body in silky, mineral-rich mud. Afterwards, rinse off under the showers and continue to relax in the steamy hot spa pools, allowing the geothermal magic to rejuvenate the senses.

Freshening Up and Return

Changing rooms and showers are available for guests to freshen up after their soak. Then, reboard the bus for a peaceful return to the ship, feeling refreshed, revitalized, and perhaps even a little younger than when the journey.

Note

Please Note: Towels will be provided for guests’ convenience. If a bathing suit is not available, it can be rented on-site. Guests are advised to remove jewelry before entering the mud bath, as the minerals in the water may cause tarnishing. The minimum age for participation in the mud bath is 3 years old.
