Philipsburg, Trolley Train-Ride

Depart the pier for the short walk to your awaiting trolley train, then climb aboard for a picturesque ride through the capital city of Philipsburg. When the first Dutch settlers arrived on St. Maarten in 1631, they chose the sandy strip separating Great Bay and the Great Salt Pond to build their capital, Philipsburg, where your ship is moored today.

Local Landmarks, Old Amsterdam Cheese & Liquor Store, Dutch Gouda Cheese Tasting

Along the way, take in a host of iconic natural, cultural and historic landmarks. Your first stop is at the Amsterdam Cheese & Liquor Store for a tasting of their famous Dutch Gouda cheese. Afterward, re-board your coach for additional sightseeing via the Salt Pond, town, and Front Street and Back Street, and marvel at the 'ginger bread houses' architecture.

Free Time, Shopping, Exploring

Next, approximately 30 minutes of free time is made available for independent shopping and exploration. Following your free time, you may opt to re-board the Trolley Train and commence the short ride back to the pier, or remain in town for additional shopping, exploration and return to the ship at your leisure and expense.
