Learn The Basics of Race Sailing

Even if you’re unfamiliar with sailing terminology like backstay, boom vang, apparent wind, layline, lift, or luff, this experience will introduce you to the fundamentals of race sailing. The crew will guide you through hoisting sails, flying the jib, winching, trimming, and steering the vessel.

Please note: This active excursion involves only a few minutes walk each way along a concrete dock and 1-2 steps to board the Papagayo. Guests must be fit  to hoist the sail, fly the jib, winch and trim the sails. All participants must be in good health and free of heart, respiratory, back, leg, hip, or neck conditions, not recommended for guests with a wheelchair or limited mobility. Guests prone to seasickness should take the necessary precautions; sea conditions will vary. A waiver must be signed to participate. Children 12 and over are welcome, provided they are accompanied by parent/guardian at all times. Life jackets for all participants are onboard. Soft drinks and bottled water are provided. Wear cool, comfortable clothing and flat rubber-soled shoes or sandals. Bring along towels, insect repellent, camera, and your preferred sun protection. The order of sights and activities may vary.
