Excursion Biking bornholm tour at Ronne

Embrace the scenic beauty of Bornholm in a unique new way during this half-day bicycle excursion.

For more than 25 years the Regional Municipality of Bornholm has been establishing a network of bicycle routes throughout the island with a total length in excess of 148 miles (230 kilometers).  Today, Bornholm has one of the best and most beautiful cycle networks in Northern Europe.  It takes cyclists through the fascinating Bornholm landscape and the picturesque fishing hamlets along the coast on a network of paths, forest tracks, quiet roads and marked cycle lanes on main roads.  Many cycle routes run along Bornholm's now abandoned railway network.

Cycling Tour

The tour starts from the pier in Rønne, where your bikes will be awaiting you; you are equipped with a bicycle and helmet and receive a short safety briefing before starting out on the cycling route.  Start your tour through the capital city of Rønne and bike your way slowly out of this peaceful hamlet with its cobblestone streets and half-timbered houses.  Soon, you find yourself in the beautiful countryside, enjoying a lovely and very scenic bike ride partly along the old railroad track and partly on small forest paths.

Round Churches

Along the way, stop at Nyker Round Church, the smallest round church on the island.  The Round Churches are a very unique feature of Bornholm - completely circular churches with massive stone walls from the 11th and 12th century, when churches were used for fortification as well as worship.

Hasle Smokehouse

Continuing, ride through open fields and onto the rugged coast to take a break in the town of Hasle. Here you’ll receive a warm welcome at an ancient smokehouse, where you can find out about the techniques used to preserve fish. Try some smoked herring with rye bread and butter and wash it down with a local beer.

Afterwards ride on a car-free, long stretch of Bornholm's 250 km bicycle route network through the forest of Rønne.

Note

Please note: This tour involves an extensive amount of cycling for over 15 miles (26 kilometers), and is recommended for experienced bikers who are in excellent physical condition.  This tour is not suitable for guests with back and/or neck problems, guests with limited mobility or those who utilise a wheelchair.  Guests are advised to wear comfortable clothing with closed-toe walking shoes or sneakers, waterproof clothing, and sun protection. The tour sequence may vary.  Helmets are provided and must be worn throughout this tour.  Tour operates in all weather conditions and guests must be prepared to cycle under the rain. Minimum age to participate is 12, accompanied by parent or guardian over the age of 21. The church is often closed and the tour will include an exterior visit only.
