Excursion Torres del paine with hiking at grey glacier tour at Puerto Natales
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Discover the most spectacular worldwide Reserve at the end of the world on this excursion to Torres del Paine National Park, a Biosphere Reserve founded in 1959 with a surface over 242,000 hectares. Here the landscape changes drastically, unforgettable for its dozen lakes populated by marine birds with granite peaks in the background. Turquoise lakes, waterfalls and mountains covered by ice are the predominant landscape inside the park.
Depart early in the morning from the pier towards the Park, stopping at different viewpoints throughout the route to pause and admire the immense beauty of the park. This is the most spectacular worldwide Reserve at the end of the earth. The Park has a fertile combination of lakes, lagoons, waterfalls, glaciers, hills and peaks, where it is possible to admire different forms of life in their natural state.
Stop at the park entrance to register for entry and receive a Park map. Walk approximately 800 meters through local forest, sandy terrain and cross a hanging bridge up to reach Grey Beach. From this point observe the ice floes resulting from the marvelous Grey Lake, which can be observed in the distance.
Continue your adventure hiking around 1.5 km alongside the lake to reach a viewpoint. This is a mild to moderate trek but probably with strong winds.
Make the return hike to rejoin the coach and continue up to Serrano area for a replenishing 3-course lunch.
After lunch the adventure continues to visit the impressive Salto Grande (big waterfall) forming the quiet Pehoe Lake. Here another 30-minute walk (400 meters each way) is the opportunity for closer pictures of the Salto, with some time to pause and admire the area.
Make the return drive to Puerto Natales with stops at the Nordenskjold Lake viewpoint and Sarmiento Lake, which offers a panoramic view of the three "Towers of Paine," mountains always subject to weather conditions.
Keep eyes open for two species members of the local fauna: the Patagonian guanaco, South American camel and relative of Llama, and the endemic lesser Rhea (Ñandu), relative of the African Ostrich.
Make a final travel stop at Cerro Castillo, a cafeteria and souvenirs shop located some 55 km distance from Puerto Natales pier.
