Haenyeo Museum

After departing the ship, begin your experience at the Haenyeo Museum. The tradition of Jeju haenyeo divers has existed for centuries, and this unique culture has even been recognized as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. At the museum, learn about the history, traditions, and unique way of life of Jeju’s haenyeo community.

Then, head outside for a traditional haenyeo diving demonstration: you'll be able to witness firsthand how these remarkable women have practiced their craft for generations. Afterwards, visit the haenyeo’s traditional workspaces and gain insight into their daily lives, working routines, and strong sense of community. You will also have the rare opportunity to ask questions directly to a senior haenyeo, who will offer a personal perspective on this remarkable cultural heritage. The experience concludes with a tasting of fresh local seafood such as turban shell, conch, or boiled octopus, providing a delicious introduction to Jeju’s coastal cuisine.

Traditional Jeju Lunch

After meeting the haenyeo, head to a local restaurant nearby, where you’ll enjoy a typical set meal with Jeju specialties: think steamed Jeju pork, grilled fish, and various types of local seaweed and rice. It’s a fitting ending to an experience that gives a unique look at traditional Korean culture. Finally, it’s a leisurely approximately one-hour journey back to the ship, fully satiated.

Please Note: This S.A.L.T. experience involves an extensive amount of activity including walking for approximately 0.93 miles (1.5 km) over flat to uneven path, with 20 steps and standing time. The Haenyeo Museum is generally accessible with paved pathways and indoor areas; an elevator/lift is available. The coastal demonstration area at Haenyeo Village may include uneven paths, outdoor surfaces, and walking near the shoreline, therefore not wheelchair accessible and not suitable for guests with limited mobility; Comfortable walking shoes and weather-appropriate clothing are advised. This experience includes seafood-based dishes, unfortunately, alternative meals and other dietary requirements or food allergies cannot be accommodated. To preserve the authenticity of the encounters featured in this S.A.L.T. experience, some local hosts may not be English speakers. A dedicated English-speaking guide will provide translation throughout the program.
