Excursion Rhodes old town & grand masters palace walking tour tour at Rhodes

The wonderful historic town of Rhodes offer a unique glimpse into its medieval past. This walking tour explores the walled Old city, home to the Palace of the Grand Masters, Street of the Knights and the Archaeological Museum.

Start your exploration of foot from the port and enter the Old Town from D'Amboise Gate, the closest point to the Palace of the Grand Masters. A visit is then made to the palace, which served as a wartime fortress, a peacetime residence for the Grand Master and a meeting place for senior knights.

See courtyard decorated with Roman statue, the beautiful mosaics on display at the museum, including some from Roman times.

Continue your walk through the old town, following the steep and narrow old Knight's Road with its cobbled surface. The road is flanked by the beautiful "Hostels" in which the Knights of the Order used to lodge, separated according to nationality or language. Admire the richly ornamented flat facades, the arched windows and the terraced roofs.

A visit is then made to the Archaeological Museum, which is housed in the 15th-century Knights Hospital. Here, see many artefacts and exquisite statues dating back as far as the 4th century B.C. The most famous exhibit in the museum is the parian marble statue, the Aphrodite of Rhodes. At the conclusion of your tour, you may opt to follow your guide back to the pier, or remain in town for further exploration and return to the ship on your own.
