Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Qeqertarsuaq located on Disco Island, is one of Greenland’s oldest and smallest townships and best seen on foot. Originally built as a whaling station and, today, there is still a bit of whaling going on, which is supplemented by both seal hunting and fishing for halibut. This is truly a traditional, Inuit place. The town is surrounded by red basalt mountains and known for its stunning natural surrounding and cultural significant. Qeqertarsuaq church, also known as the “Octagonal Church”, this distinctive building is one of the architectural highlights and its unique shape and historical significance makes it must-see. Don’t miss a visit to the local museum which provides insight into the history, culture, and daily life on the island. The town is a unique blend of cultural heritage and natural beauty.

Note

Please note: A moderate amount of walking to fully explore the town, however walking is at the discretion of each guest. Local infrastructure is basic, and local road conditions are unpredictable, note that roads in Qeqertarsuaq are only partly paved, with some inclines and steps. Equipment and services are the best-available but may not be up to the standards of those found on other excursions therefore, we urge flexibility and understanding as we visit unique and somewhat remote destinations. Lightweight, comfortable clothing with flat, closed-toe walking shoes, sun protection and a sweater or light jacket is recommended.
