Excursion Kjerringøy trading post with lunch tour at Bodoe

Journey through the history of Norway by land and sea during this picturesque, full-day excursion with lunch at the Kjerringøy Trading Post Museum.

Bodø City, Festvåg and Misten Ferry

Depart the pier for the approximately 50-minute drive north to Festvåg, with a short sightseeing drive through Bodø City en route. Upon arrival in Festvåg, embark a ferry for the short ride to Misten, a lovely coastal alpine landscape sheltered from the open sea by a garland of small islands. Upon arrival in Misten, transfer to the Kjerringøy Trading Post Museum.

Kjerringøy Trading Post

The Kjerringøy Trading Post is a historical gem of 15 well-preserved original buildings in an idyllic setting. Originally established in the late-18th century, this trading post had its prime period towards the end of the 19th century. It was used by Kjerringøy merchants who bought fish in the Lofoten Islands and elsewhere in the country, dried or salted it, and sailed to Bergen to sell it. They returned with foodstuffs, equipment and other goods that they sold in their stores. Over time, they became the most affluent in their trade in Nordland County.

Historic Film, Guided Tour, Main House and Historic Buildings

During your guided tour of the Trading Post, learn about the Kjerringøy merchants and life on Kjerringøy through a film in the service building, which also features a café and gift shop. Continue with visits to the various buildings, including a tour of the Main House. Among the preserved buildings is the Country Store, situated on the white-sand beach. Here, you can still buy nostalgic boiled sweets.

Lunch, Misten Ferry, Festvåg and Raonvikfjell Viewpoint

After lunch at the café, transfer back to Misten, then embark the ferry for the ride back to Festvåg. Upon arrival, re-board your coach and head to the panoramic Raonvikfjell Viewpoint. Following your photo stop here, re-board your coach and commence the short drive back to the pier.

Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking for approximately 0.6 miles (about one kilometre), at times over uneven and unpaved surfaces, thresholds and inclines, with a few steps to negotiate to embark/disembark the ferry, and at the restrooms and museum. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Guests are advised to wear warm, comfortable clothing with flat, closed-toe and non-slip walking shoes, and bring sun protection and a weatherproof jacket from the ship. The tour sequence may vary.
