Excursion Horta on foot: sailors, stories & seafaring heritage tour at Horta

Leaving the pier on foot, we start with a leisurely walk to the delightful Praça da República Garden, then proceed to the bustling town market, where vendors from the nearby Pico Island continue to offer fresh fruits and vegetables.

We make our way to the center of Horta, stopping at the Town Museum before heading to the iconic Peter Café Sport, a historic gathering place for sailors and adventurers from across the globe. Close by, we explore the Scrimshaw Museum, which features an impressive collection of this traditional maritime art.

Our journey takes us to the grand Santa Cruz Fort, a 16th-century stronghold constructed to protect the town from pirate incursions. Before heading back to the pier, we wander through the marina, renowned for the hundreds of vibrant paintings left by visiting sailors and take a moment at Doce Delícia Café to unwind with a tea or coffee, paired with the local delicacy, fofas do Faial.
