Isafjörður, Troll's Throne

Depart the pier for the short drive to the base of the Trolls' Throne. In Norse mythology, trolls were known as dim-witted, gigantic, man-eating creatures who lived in caverns in the mountain and hollow hills. At one time, Iceland was densely populated with trolls of different types. Local legend tells of a huge troll that went for a stroll in the fjord, and sat down to take a rest on the top of big mountain high above town. The troll was so heavy that as it sat down, it squashed part of the mountainside beneath it, leaving behind a visible indentation which has since become a very popular hiking route for guests and locals alike.

Guided Hike to the Summit, Panoramic Views over Isafjörður, the Fjord and Your Ship

Upon arrival at the Troll's Throne, join your guide for a moderately-strenuous ascending hike of approximately 740 feet (about 225 metres) to the top. En route, there is no designated path to follow, but the terrain offers a mixture of grass, soil and sheep paths. Once at the top, enjoy wonderful panoramic views over the town of Isafjörður, the picturesque fjord and your ship in the harbour. Afterward, begin the return trek to the bottom of the Troll's Throne, then re-board your coach and commence the short drive back to the pier.
