Discover Panjim, now known as Panaji, a city rich with the cultural influence of the Portuguese who first landed here in the early 16th century as merchants and conquerors. Take a walking tour of two of the city's culturally significant districts and enjoy a refreshing high tea.


Embark from the pier and board your coach for the one-hour drive to Panjim (Pangim in Portuguese), the capital of Goa. Begin your two-hour heritage walking tour of the city located in the Latin Quarters. Explore the old Portuguese enclave, or bairro, of Fontainhas. See the European influence evident in the colorful architecture along picturesque streets. Stroll avenues lined with indigenous trees such as gulmohar and acacia. Hike the terraced hills, stepped streets and the Mandovi River promenade that is just over four miles long.


While here, visit Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, built in the baroque style in the 1600s. From the church, take in the view of Praça da Igreja, the main square in the old city, built on a planned grid system after Panjim became the capital in the 17th century. See the ancient church bell considered to be the second largest of its kind in Goa.


Board your coach for the brief drive to Casa Oliveira Fernandes. While here, enjoy a relaxing high tea before you reboard your coach for the 30-minute drive to Old Goa.


In Old Goa, discover the Basilica of Bom Jesus, part of the Churches and Convents of Goa UNESCO World Heritage Site and site of the mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier. Experience the Sé Catedral de Santa Catarina, which is the Latin Rite Roman Catholic Archdiocese of the ecclesiastical province of Goa and Daman, and the seat of the Patriarch of the East Indies.

Learn the history of Se Cathedral, built to commemorate the victory of the Portuguese over a Muslim army on the day of the Feast of Saint Catherine.
