Excursion Gragnano: a culinary voyage through pasta traditions tour at Naples
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Embark on a delightful day trip in Gragnano, a charming town renowned for its rich pasta-making heritage and stunning landscapes. Situated south of Naples, Gragnano offers an authentic glimpse into Italy's culinary history, where pasta isn't just food, but it is a way of life.
Gragnano, Valley of Mills, Local Artisans
On this guided excursion, you travel to Gragnano, approximately an hour south of Naples, to dive deep inside the local pasta and wine scene. A multi-stop two-hour walking tour of the rustic Valley of Mills allows you to see and learn about the historic structures, many of them painstakingly restored, that still operate there using ancient milling techniques and waterpower systems to produce the flour used in the region’s distinctively nutty, chewy pastas. Inside one of the historic mills, witness a local craftswoman hand shape fusilli pasta entirely by hand, a truly labor of love. Complete the experience with a tasting of Gragnano DOC wines paired with typical local light bites to complement their flavors.
Within Gragnano proper, you visit the Church of Corpus Domini, a shy 16th-century gem that appears rather plain on the outside but is utterly magnificent on the inside and displays the largest canvas in Europe on its ceiling.
Pasta Factory, Lunch
The tour continues with a visit to a pasta factory, where you learn about the modern pasta-making process. You finish with a well deserved lunch, showcasing the best of Gragnano's culinary offerings.
At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your coach and commence the approximately one-hour drive back to the pier.
