Excursion Fjord dhow cruise tour at Khasab

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

The Musandam Peninsula has an abundance of sheltered fjords, some only connected to the mainland by narrow cliffs. Fjords, or khors, created by fragmented rock stretching claw-like into the sea and massive overshadowing cliffs towering above are magnificently reflected in the water below. Explore these khors from a traditional-style dhow, or motorised sailing boat.

Cruise toward Musandam's longest and most spectacular fjord, which is often referred to as 'Norway of the Middle East'. Admire the breath-taking scenery, with mountains over 2,000 feet (610 metres) high rising straight from the sea and calm, turquoise waters contrasting with creamy white limestone cliffs.

Along the way, pass the ruins of Telegraph Island, formerly a British telegraphic cable base from 1864-69. Cruise by small fishing villages.

The dhow today is covered, with a ladder to allow you to take a dip in the sea. While the dhow anchors, enjoy a swim, snorkel or just sit back and sip soft drinks, tea or coffee while admiring the scenery.

Note

Please note: This tour requires a minimal amount of walking but guests must be able to manoeuvre in and out of the boat via a 6 step ladder. The dhows are covered, providing shady seating and motorised, but are very basic. You may swim while the dhow is at anchor. Swimwear should be worn under your clothing as changing facilities may not be available. Remember to bring a towel, snorkel gear and sun protection from the ship.
