Excursion Discover tromsø tour at Tromsoe

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Explore the highlights of Tromsø and experience why Tromsø is considered the gateway to the Arctic.

Enjoy a scenic drive to the Polar Museum, located in an old 19th century wharf house. This museum will give you good insight into the life of the Arctic both in the past and present. The museum celebrates the many exploits of explorers, hunters and researchers who used Tromsø as "The Gateway to the Arctic" between 1850 and 1930.

The modern beauty of the Arctic Cathedral is your next stop. A visual masterpiece, the Cathedral's 114-foot-high entrance and pronounced cross makes this landmark the city's most recognizable feature. Each chandelier, created in Czechoslovakian crystal, was crafted to resemble hanging ice formations. The vibrant-colored stained-glass window covers the entire east wall and is one of the largest in Europe.

Continuing on, make your way towards the cable car at Tromsø Fjellheis and ascend to 1350 feet (421 meters) above sea level to the top of Mount Storsteinen. Just across the bridge from Tromsø, the ride offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city, fjords, pine covered mountains and verdant valleys.
