Tagbilaran City is the capital of Bohol, a coastal city and the seat of education and center of commerce of the entire island province. It boasts a clean seaport, the water of which is clearly unpolluted because of the absence of factories.

St Joseph's Cathedral

Being predominantly Roman Catholic, the city boasts of its cathedral built in 1767 by the Jesuit missionaries. Although the original stone façade can no longer be distinguished because of the renovations, historic pieces still remain. The altars of the cathedral are in the 18th century Baroque style with the central altar is the in the 19th century Neoclassical style. After your visit enjoy a 45 minute walking tour through Old Tagbilaran.

National Museum-Bohol

Across the cathedral is an old Spanish-built edifice which was originally the province's capitol and which the National Museum-Bohol branch exhibits historical artifacts of the province. Housed in an old city library the Museum represents the archaeological excavation and exploration of the sites in the Anda Peninsula. The archeological data gives insight into the prehistory of the island of Bohol. The goal of the National Museum is not only to be a museum but also an educational and scientific institution too.

Balili Heritage House

The house was constructed sometime in the 1920's when Mr Balili was still a bachelor. The house served as the venue of grand social functions of Tagbilaran which were attended by prominent political and social personalities from both local and national levels. In March of 1942, the war (WWII) reached Bohol. Tagbilaran was occupied by the Japanese Imperial Army. Almost everyone evacuated the town. The fine Balili house was requisitioned for use by high-ranking Japanese officers where social gatherings were still held. The house still stands today, and still carries the marks of its past grandeur that manifests how the Tagbilaranons lived their lives in the past.
