Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Discover the many health benefits of Chinese massage, reflexology and herbal medicine during this relaxing and informative, half-day sightseeing excursion.
Singapore, Reflexology Shop, Foot Massage
Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 20-minute drive to the Reflexology Shop. Reflexology rests on the ancient Chinese belief in qi (pronounced 'chee'), or 'vital energy'. According to this belief, qi flows through each person. When a person feels stressed, their body blocks qi, which can cause an imbalance in the body that leads to illness. Reflexology aims to keep qi flowing through the body, keeping it balanced and disease-free. In Chinese medicine, different body parts correspond with different pressure points on the body. Reflexologists use maps of these points in the feet, hands and ears to determine where they should apply pressure. They believe their touch sends energy flowing through a person's body until it reaches the area in need of healing. Upon arrival, experience this process during a 30-minute foot massage. During your massage, your therapist explains each pressure points.
Chinese Medical Hall, Pulse Examination
Next, drive to a sinseh shop (Chinese Medical Hall), where trained physicians diagnose one's ailments by feeling their pulse. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is becoming globally-recognised. One of the basic tenets of TCM is that the body's qi (vital energy) circulates through channels called meridians, which have branches connected to bodily organs and functions. During your visit, a trained physician feels your pulse to help determine any ailments you may have.
Chinese Herbs and Medications
In addition to TCM, learn about how the usage of Chinese herbs and medications is currently growing in popularity in Singapore. An evolving trend in the field of medical treatment is the concept of 'East-meets-West'. The eastern form of medication has a long history, and is fortified by the knowledge and experience that has been accumulated by our forefathers over many years. Western medication is advanced, and equipped, with the latest developments through continual research and development. Therefore, the fusion of East-and-West is certainly a powerful combination that is set to bring tremendous benefits to all who seek this form of medical treatment. Following your tour and some free time to browse the Chinese herbs and medication, re-board your coach and commence the short drive back to the pier.
