Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 50-minute drive to the Amami Nature Observation Forest. Along the way, take in views of the island’s rolling hills and verdant landscapes, where subtropical flora and scattered traditional homes hint at the rich cultural heritage of Amami Oshima.

Upon arrival, disembark and begin your guided walk along the natural trails of the north area of the park. The trail leads to Dragon Lookout, from which you can enjoy breathtaking views of Tatsugo Bay, its emerald waters sparkling below. On clear days, the island of Kikai can also be seen on the horizon.
As you explore, observe the wide variety of plant life and keep an eye out for endemic wildlife, including the White-backed Woodpecker, Lidth’s Jay, and Ryukyu Robin. The forest also boasts rare orchids, such as Kakucho-ran and Nago-ran, which can be seen along the trails. Your guide will provide insights into the ecology and conservation efforts of the forest, making this a truly educational and immersive experience.
After your walk, re-board the coach for the approximately 50-minute drive back to the ship, reflecting on the tranquil landscapes and unique wildlife you’ve encountered.

Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking for approximately 0.93 miles (about 1.5 kilometres) over natural trails, at times on uneven or slightly inclined surfaces, with a few steps to negotiate when boarding and disembarking the coach. Walking in the Amami Nature Observation Forest is at the discretion of each guest. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Lightweight, comfortable clothing with flat, closed-toe walking shoes and sun protection are recommended. Guests must be at least six years old to participate on this tour.
