Ancient Roman Heritage

Discover the timeless charm of Alcudia, an ancient Roman city brimming with history and character. The historic Old Town lies just two miles inland from the modern coastal developments and offers a fascinating glimpse into Mallorca’s past. While parts of the town date back to around 1300, its roots reach much further first settled by the Phoenicians and Greeks before the Romans arrived in the 2nd century BC, making Alcudia the capital of the island.

Oratorio de Santa Anna

Your tour begins with a photo stop at the Oratorio de Santa Anna, a 13th-century chapel attributed to Diego Español. Early records mention it as Santa María de la Torre. Nestled between Alcudia and its port, this charming church was recently declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (Cultural Property), recognizing its historical and architectural importance.

Exploring the Old Town

From there, enjoy a panoramic drive before continuing on foot to explore Alcudia’s beautifully preserved Old Town. Enter through one of the two original gates, part of the imposing city walls built after King Jaime I of Spain conquered Mallorca and step into a labyrinth of narrow cobblestone streets steeped in history. As you stroll among traditional stone houses, quaint squares, and local shops, you’ll feel transported back in time.

A Taste of Mallorca

To complete your visit, relax and savor a traditional Mallorcan snack, the perfect way to conclude your exploration of one of the island’s most evocative towns.
