Excursion Voergaard castle tour at Skagen

Skagen and Buried Church

Depart the pier for the short drive down the east coast to the Buried Church. A photo stop is made her to view its ruins, which have fallen prey to the drifting dunes. Today, only the original spire remains standing as the dunes grow bigger and bigger.  

Coastal Drive and Voergaard Castle

Next, re-board your coach and drive continues along the east coast, which offers splendid views of the sea and heath, then head to the Voergaard Castle. Situated behind a wide moat and approximately 3.2-foot-thick (one-meter-thick) walls, Voergaard is Denmark's most beautiful Renaissance castle. During your guided visit inside the castle, learn about the history of the castle, its past inhabitants and 'ghosts', and view a priceless collection of art, treasures and royal antiques.

Skagen Countryside, Bangsbo Manor, Old Mill and Pastry Tasting

Leaving the castle, re-board your coach and drive through the picturesque countryside to Bangsbo Manor, nestled in the hills behind the town of Frederikshavn. Upon arrival, proceed to the Old Mill for a refreshment stop and an opportunity to sample a famous Danish pastry. Afterward, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 45-minute drive back to Skagen, then pass through the village before arriving back at the pier.

Note

This tour involves a moderate amount of walking for approximately 0.6 miles (about one kilometre), at times over uneven and cobblestone surfaces, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach and 60 steps inside the Voergaard Castle. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Lightweight, comfortable clothing, flat, closed-toe walking shoes and sun protection are recommended. Guests must be at least six years old to participate on this tour. The tour sequence may vary.
