Excursion Stavanger cultural cycling route tour at Stavanger

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Stavanger is a city of crisply painted wooden buildings along cobbled lanes, and also of beaches, mountains, fjords, and fishing harbours scattered throughout its pastoral outskirts. Enjoy a firsthand view of it all on this comfortably paced cycling excursion.

Your half-day begins with a short walk down the pier for your fitting at the nearby bike shop. From there your local guide will lead the way through photogenic Old Stavanger, then out towards Mosvannet, a lake known for its rich birdlife, and Hafrsfjord’s impressive Three Swords Monument. You’ll continue to the shore of Gandsfjord for a cycle along one of Norway’s most popular two-wheeled ways – the North Sea Cycling Route.

Further along lies Godalen and the Storhaug peninsula, a recreational area beloved by locals and tailor-made for cycling. A long coastal stretch runs past one scenic harbor after another, showcasing pastoral inland landscapes and fantastic views over the Gandsfjord to the mountain peaks beyond. Several lovely beaches are passed, as are dramatic headlands, jutting boldly into the fjord.

The return ride brings Stavanger’s ultra-chromatic Street Art district into view. Your guide will show off several of the coolest (and largest) works, painted by leading names in urban wall art. At the ride’s conclusion, you’ll be back where you started. Walking back to the ship with your guide, you’ll understand why it’s said there’s no better way to meet Stavanger than by bicycle.
