Excursion Mumbai’s dabbawala superheroes tour at Bombay

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Experience a day in the life of Mumbai’s ‘superheroes’, the Dabbawalas, during this immersive, half-day sightseeing excursion with lunch.

Mumbai, Dabbawalas’ Headquarters & Introduction

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 45-minute drive to the Dabbawala Headquarters. Upon arrival, meet the Dabbawalas, members of the Mumbai Tiffin Box Suppliers Association. Every day, 5,000 of them deliver fresh, home-cooked food from 200,000 suburban kitchens to offices in the downtown area. Each lunch is prepared by a loving wife or mother, and packed into a set of stackable tiffins (aluminium boxes). The meals are stacked on decorated handcarts, then carried to their hungry recipients dangling from the shoulder-poles and bicycle handlebars of the Dabbawalas. Tins are rarely, if ever, lost, and always find their way home again to be washed up for the next day’s lunch.

Therefore, we urge flexibility and understanding as we visit unique, less-touristic destinations. Guests will have to stand during the train journey for a duration of approximately 15 minutes. Expect high temperatures and humid conditions. Operation of this tour is subject to weather conditions. The tour sequence may vary. Space on this tour is very limited; we suggest you book in advance to avoid disappointment.
