Excursion Marae taputaputatea by 'le truck' tour at Raiatea

Voyage into Polynesia's past onboard typical island style, Le Truck, bus with legends and folklore stories of historic Raiatea - 'The Sacred Island'.

Utoroa, Bay of Faaroa, Faaroa River

Leaving the port area, your truck navigates through the town of Uturoa, around the Bay of Faaroa to your first stop with a view over the Faaroa River, which is the only navigable river in the Society Islands.

Marae Taputapuatea

After your photo-stop, re-board your truck and head to the Marae Taputapuatea, a UNESCO World Heritage Site which features a number of Marae and other stone structures and once was considered the central temple and religious centre of Eastern Polynesia.

Volcanic Crater View

Your last stop on this tour will be to view a volcanic crater before your drive back to your ship. During the drive, your guide will point out local fruits and flowers in various stages of growth and you will discover tropical plants, flowers and trees that contribute to the lush beauty of the Island.  

The tour concludes back at the pier.

Please note: This tour involves minimal walking. The ride is by 'Le Truck' a large jeep-style vehicle with bench seating. The ride may be bumpy and therefore this tour is not recommended for guests with neck or back problems. Comfortable, lightweight clothing is recommended.
