Excursion Magdalena island natural penguin reserve tour at Punta Arenas

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Explore beautiful Magdalena Island, a natural reserve created to protect Magellan Penguins, Cormorants, and other indigenous birds. Punta Arenas is the launching point for a boat trip to the Isla Magdalena to see the Magellanic penguins at the Monumento Natural Los Pingúinos. A single trail, marked off by rope, is accessible to humans to discover the teeming birdlife here.

Begin your tour with a short drive to the local pier, boarding your boat to navigate across the Strait of Magellan to reach Magdalena Island. Upon arriving, enjoy the rare opportunity to observe one of the largest penguin colonies in Southern Chile. There is also time to explore the reserve's picturesque lighthouse and enjoy panoramic views of the area.

Make sure to bring along warm clothing, even in summer; the island can be chilly, particularly if a breeze is blowing across the water.
