Nawiliwili, Kilohana Plantation, Narrated Antique Train-Ride
Depart the pier for the short drive to the Kilohana Plantation, which began in 1864 and, at its peak, grew to over 22,000 acres (about 8,903 hectares) of sugar cane. Today, Kilohana spans over 40,000 acres (about 16,187 hectares), and your visit encompasses approximately 105 acres (about 42.5 hectares) of it. En route, learn about Kilohana's rich history and the adventures planned for today's visit, which is exclusive to Silversea guests. Begin with a narrated, approximately 40-minute train-ride pulled by an authentic, 1939 Whitcomb diesel engine train. Whilst relaxing in one of two mahogany coaches, pass through and take in spectacular panoramic views of your surrounds.
Hawaiian/Exotic Trees, Plants, Flowers & Orchards, Animal Pastures, Viewing & Feeding
Pass by endangered Hawaiian hardwood trees, exotic tropical plants and flowers, fruit-tree orchards, fields, and ponds of over 50 fruit varieties. Included are bananas, papayas, pineapple, sugar cane, mangoes, star fruit, cherries, avocadoes, lychees, taros, and more. Pass by animal pastures with donkeys, horses, cattle, goats, sheep, wild pigs, chickens, ducks, and endangered wild geese. A stop is made for you to disembark and feed the wild pigs, goats, sheep, and donkey. Following the train-ride, proceed to the original Kilohana Blacksmith Shoppe for a visit to Clayworks.
Clayworks, Glazed Tile Creation, Try the Pottery Wheel, Guided Nature Walk, Fresh Fruit Tastings
Here, you can choose, and glaze, your very own textured tile featuring ancient Hawaiian petroglyphs of turtles, fish, surfers, canoes in the ocean, or tropical garden scenes. In addition, experience a pottery wheel demonstration and the thrill of spinning clay on the pottery wheel. Clayworks provides everything, including expert artisanal instruction, for you to create your own, unique keepsake. Your glazed creation is fired in the kiln and delivered to the ship prior to departure. Your final adventure is a guided nature walk through the fruit tree orchard. Along the way, pick, and taste, fresh fruit directly from the trees, and learn how to cut, prepare, and eat coconuts and tropical fruit. Your tour concludes with a short drive back to the pier.
