Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately one-hour drive to the Maunalei Arboretum. Upon arrival at the Maunalei Arboretum’s Trailhead, receive your brief safety and tour presentation. Afterward, explore Maui’s native forest and private conservation lands through the eyes of a local guide during this scenic and exhilarating, approximately two-mile (about 3.2-kilometre) nature hike through a privately-owned stretch of rainforest that is not open to the public. This personalised tour is designed for active guests who desire a deeper insight into Maui’s native landscapes, flora and fauna, and ecological and water conservation efforts.

Your hiking trail takes place mostly beneath a canopy of shade, and is lined with beautiful, lush, and diverse vegetation. At the half-way point of your hike, a rest stop is made to relax with a refreshment and snack box to replenish your energy. Photo stops are also made during your hike at various viewpoints offering spectacular panoramic vistas into the lush, West Maui Mountains, and out to the blue Pacific Ocean, and islands of Lanai and Molokai (weather-permitting). Your guided hike concludes back at the Maunalei Arboretum’s Trailhead. Upon arrival, re-board your van and commence the approximately one-hour drive back to the pier.

Please note: This tour involves an extensive amount of walking and standing for approximately two miles (about 3.2 kilometres), at times over uneven, muddy, slippery, and natural surfaces and inclines, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the van. This tour is recommended for active guests in good physical condition. This tour is not suitable for pregnant woman, guests with back and/or neck problems, guests with heart and/or respiratory conditions, guests with a fear of heights, guests prone to motion sickness, guests with limited mobility, and guests who utilize a wheelchair. Weather conditions can vary greatly in the Hawaiian rainforest, and become much cooler at higher altitudes. Guests are advised to wear lightweight, comfortable clothing in layers with flat, closed-toe, and non-slip walking or hiking shoes they won’t mind getting dirty or muddy, and bring sun protection, biodegradable sunscreen, insect repellent, an insulated and weatherproof jacket, umbrella, bottled water, and US Dollars or credit cards for purchases from the ship. Guests must sign a waiver in order to participate on this tour, Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian over 18 years old. Ponchos and walking sticks are provided. The driving time between the pier and Maunalei Arboretum is approximately one hour in each direction. Operation of this tour is subject to weather conditions. The tour sequence may vary.
